ABOUT US

Dedicated to Micro since 1958...

The Micro Fire Department’s story began in 1956 when a small group of residents came together with one goal: protecting their community. After an initial meeting drew only three people, a second gathering brought about 40 locals who rolled up their sleeves to make it happen. Land was purchased, a surplus 1946 REO truck was fitted with a 2,200-gallon tank, and logs from area farms were donated and milled to build the first station. On November 18, 1958, the department was officially incorporated and chartered.

Through the years, Micro’s volunteer firefighters worked tirelessly to improve equipment and expand capabilities. The first new truck arrived in 1962, followed by additional tankers, a dedicated equipment truck, and brush trucks built and refitted by members themselves. An outside siren, mounted on a repurposed water tower, became the first alert system and was later joined by pagers in 1981. In 1993, the department launched its First Responder Program, training firefighters to assist with medical emergencies, and took delivery of a modern GMC pumper/tanker.

What began as a dream has grown into a well-equipped, highly trained department, always ready to respond. Built on the dedication of generations of volunteers, the Micro Fire Department continues its proud tradition of service, protecting lives, property, and the community we call home.
